Cash flow has been at the front of my brain the past few weeks in that it’s not positive. Yep. Not Good.
After a few panic-filled crying spells, I decided to see this as an opportunity instead of a problem and re-evaluate where I spend my time. So I asked myself:
“Who can I help? Who can I serve? What’s my fastest path to cash?”*
I’ve toyed with the idea of finding a part-time job, but adding up gas, time commuting and part-time job wages, I can’t justify it. So my fastest path to cash right now is WPChick.com.
Because of my experience in web consulting firms, plus in the past 4 years I’ve been using WordPress exclusively for all my web sites, and because it’s something that people really need—that is, I really don’t need to do much client education on why you need a blog or why you need to use a blog effectively to market your business—and because I already have a few loyal clients who still need my services, I’m going to focus mostly on this business for at least the next 3 months.
Those who know me realize this isn’t an easy thing for me to do.
Focus, that is.
My inability to focus on one thing for very long is due to a combination of the way my brain works (I’m an eclectic/scanner/renaissance soul by natuer) and a few monsters I still have cavorting around in my brain.
And I also realize that those monsters are what’s keeping me from making enough money to cover bills and make life easier.
So here’s my plan:
- Quiet the monsters. I’m taking a class called The Energy of Money where we’re exploring our relationship with money, how we talk to ourselves, and learning ways to quiet the negative self-talk (aka monsters) & thoughts that prevent us from pursuing the things we desire. I’m finding language has a LOT to do with it. Time to end my reign as Queen of Negative Self-Talk.
- Make WPChick fun again. When I first started WPChick, I was excited to help people get over their fear of using WordPress. Then I started doing more of the actual work than teaching and guiding. Which became un-fun. Quickly. Now I’m working on re-launching my services pages and zeroing in on what I love to do which is teach people how to use WordPress and help them effectively use WordPress as a marketing tool.
- Get accountable. I need a butt-kicker. Someone who doesn’t take my whiney bull and is perfectly OK in smacking me upside the head to get my attention. Her name is Yolanda and I love her for it.
Now, I’m not going to completely ignore my Thrive Creative Coaching (aka TCC) biz. That would be silly.
All I’m doing is just spending more time with WPChick stuff than TCC stuff since bringing in money with WPChick is easier than with TCC.
So, what about you?
Even if you’re not having the cash flow opportunities (that’s my new, permanent replacement for the word “problems”) that I’m having, is there a way to improve what you already have?
Who can you help? Who can you serve?
What’s your fastest path to cash?

I think you’ve made a good plan. That money class sounds really interesting. It’s funny you talked about that because I was just thinking about finding something similar.
My fastest path to cash is… *drumroll*
Putting something out there for folks to buy. Which (almost) goes without saying, but I thought I’d drop in and say it anyhoo.
Hugs
Crystal
@Crystal – Yep yep!!
And I’ll be on your case if you don’t put your shopping cart guide by June. I was about to send you a DM asking where it was before I read your post…
@Alisha – The class is from a gal named Melanie Yost. You can find the info here: http://www.theenergyofmoneygroup.com/
It sounds odd to say, but I feel lucky that I’m disabled. Because of the monthly check, not the other stuff.
It takes a lot of pressure off, but I still need more than I get so I can cover medical co-pays, etc. And I’ve been spending way too much on courses, so I’ve called a moratorium on biz spending until my biz can cover those expenses with cash brought in. I think vocal coaching will be my fast track to cash. Hope so.
Good luck with WPChick – I’m so glad you rediscovered your passion for it. I think I told you I started something like it, but soon learned I have zero patience for teaching newbies how to use WP — oops! I just like the tech part. Heh.
Sounds like a plan! There are sooo many people out there who need WP help (including moi!).
I am in the midst of putting packages up and tweaking my site copy. And then I’ll be ready to rock.
I also need to re-focus on cash flow. For the last few months, I’ve been focusing on learning, growing, and changing things around. I guess I needed this period, but I cannot afford to continue it after the move!! I’m even considering taking on a part-time job to feel less anxious about the money thing.
I have negative self-talk problem too. Yolanda truly is a good butt-kicker! She oozes positivity and action.
I’m in the same place, but I’ve not found my ‘thing’ yet. It also didn’t help that my webhosts went AWOL this week and I’ve had to move my site, and build it up from scratch.
I’m also with LaVonne, sometimes being disabled has its benefits. However, I also need more than disability provides, but I’m in now way well enough to work even a part-time proper job.
I wish I’d known you were a wordpress chick, I just coded my own site for the first time using it. I was ready to walk away at one point!
@LaVonne – Don’t blame you for being thankful for the disability checks. I’m sure it makes things a lot easier! There comes a point where you just need to take action and do stuff. I could easily trap myself in learning mode… SO easily…
@Kathleen – you know where to find me when you’re ready for help
And don’t poo-poo a part time job. It’s amazing what some positive cash flow will do for your stress levels and creativity.
@Jane – You’ll find it
And if you need help, you know where to find me, too
Hey Alexia,
So glad to hear your committment to ending your reign as the Negative Self Talk Queen!
I trust you are feeling better and are stepping back on the path!
Blessings ~
Melanie
Thanks Alexia, I was about to ask about the money class. You must also be a mind reader.
