I read a post today by Jen at Inspired Home Office about debt, honesty and compassion.
And although I don’t really want to disclose the amount of debt we have, I realized it’s time to stop beating myself up about it. I’m making myself miserable and not taking care of the problem. In order to move on I must forgive myself (and my partner-in-crime) and begin to take care of the problem. Small but consistent steps are the only way to get on with it, and I’m positive any progress will only make me feel better about it all.
So yes, facing the brutal truth of how much credit we actually ran up is painful.
Feeling horrible about it all is fine — for a time.
Forgiveness & compassion is a way to heal from the pain of what seems like a moral failure on our part.
Then we have to do something about it.
And we are.
And the debt will go.
Slowly. But it will go.
