Starred Items: The not well edition

No273 13 Oct 2009 SneezeToday my body decided it was going to get sick, and right before Thanksgiving.

I’ve been downing boatloads of hot tea & soup but I still feel like I’ve been hit by a herd of elephants.

So this is going to be short & sweet… Hope everyone has a fantastic turkey day. If anyone knows a good recipe for turkey soup, I might need it.

And I’ve named my new biz and I’ll be unveiling a website after Thanksgiving.

Also, I’m clearing out my studio & want to get rid of old stock (i.e. journals). Stay tuned for a Black Friday-CyberMondayish post with a big sale, if I can get my arse well enough to sit and edit photos for a few hours…

So… go gorge yourself. Just don’t explode. That would be messy.

Starred Items – NaNoWhatsits

It’s November already! Yikes!!

I was just getting used to writing 2009 in my journal, and in less than 2 months, I’ll have to remember another year.. 2010.

With all the NaNoWhatsits going on (NaNoWriMo, NaBloPoMo, NaNiSweMo… *) I felt I should jump in, so I chose the one that’s the least overwhelming.

NaNoJouMo: National Nonstop Journaling Month proposed by art journaler extraordinaire, Dawn Sokol. Basically it’s an anything-goes do whatever you feel like doing as long as you do something in your art journal thing every day.

I can do that.

Here are my entries for this month so far:

freedom purity inspire

Some creativity-related links in honor of all the creativity going on this month:

  1. Lose Touch with Your Inner Whining Artist
  2. Project Journals: A Creative Way to Get Things Done
  3. Real Creativity and the Pains of Fantasy Withdrawal
  4. Making Meaning with Your Decision
  5. Eco Books: Ok… so I had to put this in here. I made 2 journals & submitted instructions. My very first paid real live book dealie!

And that’s it for today. Have a fantastic rest of the week!
*Thanks to G. Newfry for the NaNo links!

Starred Items, and a gooey meat hand…

Meat HandWow. I really need to get more non-linky-posts up here. At least I have a regular routine established for Wednesdays. Maybe starting up a regular Monday & Friday post will spice things up a bit.

So… that said, here are the Starred Items for this week:

  1. What U2 Can Teach You About Being Timeless
  2. Planning what’s realistic and doable: I’m not too fond of the word “Realistic” as I think it places too many limits. I prefer just “Doable” instead.
  3. Whattaya Whattaya Whattaya: You have all you need right now to do what you want to do. So why aren’t you doing it?
  4. Taking care of the goose: The goose that lays the golden egg, aka YOU.

and a super-spooky icky gross link just in time for Halloween

  5. Make A Meat Hand: this would be so perfect for dinner this Saturday… if you can get over the über-gross factor there.

Starred Items: Goals Edition

4916As you’re reading this I’m probably on a plane back home from visiting my parents and sister for a week. Good times & I got some fantastic clothes, shoes & a new haircut! Love you mom :) .

Today I wanted to highlight some helpful goal-achieving posts. Some are more on-topic than others, but generally these are some ideas and concepts that are slowly seeping into my own life.

I’m aware that I have 2 links from Ittybiz.com, but they’re definitely not the same author.

What goals are you working on these days?

Me? I’m working on a new business that incorporates more than just my tech side, keeping the 25 pounds I recently lost OFF, and formulating a plan to declutter and finally decorate my house.

And one last link… Wanna win a MacBook Air? :) Yes, it’s related to goals… how? A great computer can help you achieve some goals…

More Starred Stuff

DoughnutsWow. Look at me!

Second week in a row and on the same day.

It’s a miracle.

Let’s get to it then!

Here are some starred items from my Google Reader that I’ve been reading lots this week:

  • The World Needs You to Do What You Love – via Zen Habits by Jonathan Mead. I’m fully aware there are 7 things in the “Five things…” list.
  • The Zero Hour Workweek – new *free* eBook by none other than the aforementioned Jonathan Mead. Prolific boy that Jonathan. Great read. I’ve read it every day so far this week. It’s a primer on how to get started getting paid to be you. Yes, this is my goal.
  • Monday’s Kick in the Ass: This is your chance – I get these emails every Monday and yes, they do kick me in the ass. And i like it. Subscribe to Dave’s stuff. You’ll be glad you did. So – this is your chance. Are you gonna take it?
  • 30 Ways to Build a Carefree Life – some of these are a bit difficult (get out of debt, for instance) but make so much sense it hurts.
  • How to Fake It as an Artist – not just how to fake it, but how to fake it and make it later on… Yeah it’s a boring cliche but you know what? Each of his takeaways are priceless.

So that’s it for now – again, don’t get used to this. It’s a fluke. I may not come back next Wednesday with links. But then again I may.

I rock the enigma… or something.

Happy Hump Day.

Starred in my Reader…

Here’s some stuff that I’ve been re-reading often this week so far. I’d promise to make this a weekly thing, but I’m not so good at keeping promises like that. So I’ll probably do it once in a while – do a bit of a star-dump on the blog to share with you folks.

The people who wrote these blog posts are real, authentic, and true. Which is why these articles resonate with me so much. As you probably know from previous posts, I’m in a time of transition, of re-evaluating my values, my life, how I treat myself and how I’m going to live from now on. And most of the starred stuff from this week touches on that.

Enjoy.
